I just realized that it might be a good idea to tell everyone what I recently went through.
Growing up I had two AG dolls; my Samantha and my Josefina. I used to play all the time with one of my best friends and her dolls, and as a little girl one thing always confused me. My friend's dolls as well as my Josefina had neckstrings.
My Samantha, had one of those plastic rings now used. As a little girl, I didn't question it too much. But now that I'm older, I did.
My mother and I bought a pm Addy on ebay, and when she got to us--clearly a pm doll, she too had the plastic ring! Personally, I'm a fan of the old neckstrings.
So I called AG. And what did I find out? My Samantha and the Addy I had were pm test dolls! Before AG switched to the plastic rings, they used them on a few dolls they sold to test the waters and see people's reactions to them. When lots of people actually LIKED the rings because they wre more hidden for AGT clothes, they decided to switch over.
Being a bigger fan of the strings, and somewhat disappointed my dolls didn't have them, I asked if I could get them switched for strings in the hospital. Because I got test dolls, and unknowingly, they switched the rings for strings free of charge!
Now they're home, and I'm thrilled to see the nice, long white neckstrings that for some reason, I love so much.
I just thought it would interest others on the board to hear about this. This way, if anyone else ended up with a test doll and wants strings, they can do what I did. (AG said they're only going to be switching for strings for a little while longer.)
Anyhow. Sorry if this has come up before; I thought you all should know.

Hm, thats very interesting. I guess it makes sense, companies usually test out new ideas before jumping right into them. All 3 of my pm dolls have strings, but I wonder if anyone else on the board, or any lurkers, had that happen to them. Thanks for sharing!

That is interesting that they told you the plastic rings were for test dolls. I understand that they also do the plastic rings whenever a doll is sent to the hospital for a head replacement.
